Grove Travel: our highlights of the Algarve coast
by Grove Admin
Why visit the Algarve? Our Marketing Assistant Rosie has just come back from 7 days in Lagos with her family this May. See her highlights of the traditional town of Lagos and the Algarve coastline below!
1. Huge expanse of coastline
The Algarve enjoys a wide coastline with endless scenic cliffs and hidden grotto’s. Take a traditional Schooner boat trip in Lagos and transfer to a dingy to see “The Cathedral”, an impressive cavernous grotto nestled in the sea amongst other stunning secluded caves.
2. Lagos: the perfect fusion of local town life and tourist amenities
Visit the town for a mix of its quaint winding streets and pretty squares, plus the lively marina with daily live music and gorgeous views of the impressive yachts anchored there each night
3. The home of the “real” piri piri chicken
Like Nandos? Experience the “real” piri piri chicken here in Portugal: a recipe derived from the African bird’s eye chilli “discovered” by Portuguese pioneers
4. Stunning hotel resorts and lush beach clubs
The coastline, in particular Lagos, has many high quality hotel accommodation including impressive hotel resorts and secluded villas. With many of these being low rise buildings these keep the region’s coastline especially attractive to the eye. Choose a hotel with an adjoining beach club for the ultimate in luxury
5. Over 2000 years of history
There is both roman and Iberian history to find in the region, see the remains a roman wall in Lagos and its own town fort keeping an eye out to sea, Forte da Ponta da Bandeira
7. A choice of water activities, plus zoo’s and aqua parks nearby
Try some paddle boarding or kayaking giving you a view of the stunning coastline from this sea, or head to one of the several zoo’s or aqua marine parks nearby: enough to keep the young at heart amused!
