Holiday review- 7 days at the luxury Elounda Bay Palace, Crete

Check out our holiday-makers review of the luxury Elounda Bay Palace in Crete for a relaxing Summer or Autumn break.

The sophisticated Elounda Bay Palace in North-East Crete, lies among 20 acres of beautiful bougainvillaea-scented gardens on the beach. A member of ‘The Leading Hotels of the World’, this hotel boasts panoramic views over the island, where sheltered sandy beaches contrast with crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea.

Holiday, October 2015-

We LOVED the Elounda Bay Palace. The room was great and had a stunning view. There were two ‘beaches’ – tiny and very secluded so and a bar between them.  As they were nearing the end of the season in October things were quieting down somewhat so we didn’t try the fish restaurant you recommended although it looked lovely.  The other restaurants were in the Elounda Beach (all one resort, as I am sure you know, but slightly different and more expensive) and there was only a 25 Euro allowance per head.  The
food in the main restaurant was excellent so we didn’t bother with anything
else, although self-service does get a bit tiresome towards the end of the
The spa was in the Elounda Beach and was expensive but really excellent – we
had a 50 Euro voucher each and treatments start at 90 Euros.

Staff all through were exceptional – nothing was too much trouble and they
were all extremely friendly.

Water sports were great – we chartered a skippered yacht for the day and
although expensive Mike loved it and it gave us a chance to see the island
from the water.  He also took us to Spinalonga and organised a private water
taxi from the yacht to the island.  The boat itself was a little tired but
the skipper was amazingit was like having a private guide and he told us
endless bits of history about Crete.  Mike water skied and we hired a pedalo
each day so explored all-round the nearby coast (aren’t I brave?!).  We even
pedalled up to Elounda.  The water sports guys will water taxi you to
Elounda for lunch if you want.

Due to the fact that the resort is in the Mirabello bay it doesn’t feel like
a big expanse of ocean, more like a lake so perfect for those water fearing
like me.

We hired a car (very reasonable we thought) and drove to Knossos which was
fab, if we had been there longer we would have explored more.

Private transfer from airport worked great although Thomas Cook tried to put
us on the bus back to Heraklion.  Mike spoke to the rep who soon decided we
had booked a private transfer.

All in all really excellent.  I would definitely go back.

Hope to see you soon.

With love
