Nevada….not just Las Vegas!
by Grove Travel
Sometimes we get asked the question…..Where else can I go outside Vegas? The obvious answer is San Francisco or Los Angeles but what about the other hidden gems ? We recently spoke to a travel colleague who embarked on a road trip to see what he could find. He travelled 1400 miles in 10 nights, starting in San Francisco and ending in Las Vegas. Along the way he took in Ely and then on to Great Basin National Park and also Rachel, better known as the mysterious Area 51. Whilst in Ely why not eat at the Cell Block Steakhouse…yes you can dine in a cell! Great Basin national park is one of the lesser know national parks of the US, it was established in 1986 and is near the Utah boarder. It houses the Lehman Caves, ornately decorated with stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone and over 300 rare shield formations. There is also the Cathedral Gorge State Park which features a gorge eroded through soft bentonite clay. The park covers 1608 acres. You could also take a trip to Area 51……just don’t cross that line!!! Think the 1970’s “SMASH” TV ads!! Alamo was the next stop and a relaxing visit to Cowboys dream is literally that, a dream that Mrs Frias fulfilled after the loss of her husband. Its a beautiful hotel for peace and quite with a touch of luxury. Onwards to Valley of Fire State Park which is the oldest state park in Nevada. It covers almost 42000 acres and derives its name from the red sandstone formations. There is so much to see and do so pop in and see us for more ideas and inspiration…….
