Short Break to Verona, Italy
by Grove Travel
Verona is full of life. Adjacent to the Adige River, it has a compact city centre with ancient and old Italian architecture – including the Arena, the Pont Scaligero, the Roman Theatre over the Pont Pietra, the Cathedral and the famous balcony associated with William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Verona is situated between the Italian Lakes and Venice on the coast. We visited in early summer, when the weather was warm and sunny, soaking up the atmosphere as we wandered across the bridges over the river, through narrow streets – some with designer shops, others with hidden gems of restaurants, artisan shops and small hotels tucked away.
Everything in Verona is walkable. The Castelvecchio museum is at the entrance to the Pont Saligero, which is a wonder to walk across; the arena is on the Piazza Brà, as is the Barbieri Palace, a choice of numerous restaurants, street entertainment and, often, market and festival stalls. It is an attractive and vibrant city, well worth a 2 or 3 day visit.
Grove Travel can arrange your short break to Verona, including your stay in a lovely hotel in the enchanting courtyard of Juliet’s home.
